The Branch

The other day i started my walk on a narrow path in the arboretum. I had some troubling thoughts on my mind that were distracting me. Not really focused on the path, i got a fallen branch caught up between my legs. I was so caught up with these thoughts, i just kept walking and banged the branch against the back of one of my legs. I felt this sharp pain, and thought to myself, "Oh great there goes my walk". Suddenly i heard this beautiful bird call and my eyes rested on a gorgeous flower. I kicked the branch away, refocused my attention on the beauty around me. Almost miraculously, i felt absolutely no pain on my leg.

Sometimes our minds are so focused on a bad event that is becomes a "branch" in our lives-an encumbrance. The pain it brings can be magnified and not real. If we refocus our attention on the good things in our lives, that pain disappears. Just KICK those past or current bad events to the side.
