The SeeSaw
Many people may not remember the seesaw. It was found in many playgrounds. It needed two people to play on it. There was a long pole that balanced across a secured bar that rested on legs. On either end of the pole were seats that the two kids would sit. One kid would sit on one end and raise up, while the other would sit on opposite end. So back and forth each taking a turn pushing up and going down, having lots of fun. Occasionally, it would be very special to have perfect balance and both ends would be suspended at the same height. Now if one kid wanted to just sit on the ground, they could suspend the other high above the ground at an awkward angle, scaring them.
Can we look at relationships like that seesaw? We move back and forth from our positions so that we have fun. When we become firm in our position ( sitting on the ground), our partner may be left high above the ground in an anxious position. We should always be aware of not only our "comfort zone", but also that of our partner.
